Season 22 is the twenty-second season of Family Guy. It premiered on September 3, 2023 with "How I Met Your Real Father" and will conclude on May 22, 2024 with "Return to the Seas".

Synopsis

Brace yourselves for more laughs, satire, and epic adventures as Family Guy rounds its twenty-second season! With Meg's feisty long-lost father Stan along for their ride, the Griffins continue to get in all sorts of situations, including Meg becoming a surrogate to gay couple Bruce and Jeffery, Peter opening up a highway he doesn't really own, Lois getting captured while on vacation, Chris pretending to be in a relationship with his mom to his school friends and Stewie and Brian undergoing friendship therapy.

Events

This season starts with a story arc, where Meg finally meets her real father, Stan Thompson, starting with the episode "How I Met Your Real Father" and ending with "Battle of the Dads".
Stan decides to settle into Quahog living in a temporary placing Spinazola Apartments and becomes a major recurring character.
- Meg undergoes a legal name change. With her now being called Meg Thompson-Griffin.
Mayor Wild West gains weight in "Fattest in the West" and spends most of the seasons as a fatter version of himself.
- This, in turn, also cues off the story arc of Wild West being obese and trying to lose his weight.
Stan finally finds work at Hennessey O'Callaghan's Fishing Business, working on the S.S Thompson in "Return to the Seas".
- In addition, Peter Griffin returns to his old fisherman job on his new boat the Revamped S.S. More Powerful Than Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, and the Incredible Hulk Put Together.
- Alongside that, Brian takes Peter's job at the Pawtucket Brewery when the latter quits it to go back to his fisherman job.

Trivia

This season introduces the final batch of new culturally/sexually diverse voice actors for the minority characters who made their first speaking appearances since the racial recast:
- Michelle Krusiec as Heather Griffin to give her an LGBT voice actor.

This season was written during the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike, which Seth MacFarlane and showrunners Richard Appel and Alec Sulkin sided with and shut down production of the season. Which caused the season to undergo two hiatuses due to lack of completed episodes.
- Fertilized Megg aired 4 weeks after the previous episode Fattest in the West.
- Friends in Dry Places aired almost two months after the previous episode The Return of the King (of Queens).
This is the final season to have episodes air on Sundays. Starting with "Boston Stewie", episodes now air on Wednesdays, being the first time it happened since 2001.
