Karen Griffin (born in 1958) is the sister of Peter Griffin, and a pro-wrestler with the stage name "Heavy Flo". She first appeared in "Peter's Sister". She is voiced by Kate McKinnon.

Biography[]

Birth[]

Karen was born to Francis Griffin and a previous ex-wife of his in 1958, eight years before the birth of her brother, Peter. Sometime before Peter's birth, the ex-wife divorced Francis and abandoned him with Karen, forcing Francis to raise her himself until he got married to Thelma Griffin.

Coming Out[]

When Karen was 18, she came out as a lesbian, angering Francis into kicking her out of the house and practically disowning her. She grew to hate him for his intolerance and later on, she hated her stepmother Thelma, for supporting his decision.

Mentions[]

Due to her being a bully to her, Peter and his parents rarely mention her.

The first mention of her is in Season 2's "Between Sanity and Madness", where Francis teased Peter about her, and mentioned wanting to call her and have her visit Peter. This resulted in Peter wrestling Francis to avoid him calling her.

Career[]

Karen started up her own life, working as a wrestler, bulking up and making dough, until she had enough money to buy an apartment, get a job, and slowly crawl her way up in life.

At the age of 34, she met the girl of her dreams, at a lesbian bar, Heather Sung. The two girls became girlfriends and had a happy and healthy relationship together.

It wasn't until a while after Thelma's death in "Mom's the Word", that Karen felt comfortable with returning to her family again. After all, she still loved Peter and desperately wanted to see him again. As soon as her parents were out of the way, the window was open for her to go back to the family.

Reuniting With Family[]

On Thanksgiving, Karen drops by The Griffin House for a surprise visit in "Peter's Sister", leaving the whole family surprised to learn that Peter even had a sister. Peter admits, he's never mentioned his sister, due to him being very ashamed by her. This is of course, due to the fact that Karen always beats him up and dominates him at everything.

Lois is rightfully inquisitive as to why Karen was absent during major Griffin family events, such as the funerals of her own parents and Karen explains the whole story.

Meg discovers that Karen treats Peter the same way that Peter treats herself. Although happy at first after her dad treated her like dirt all those years and was finally getting a taste of his own medicine, she realizes that Karen takes things too far and decides to work with Peter to even the odds. Peter challenges her to a female wrestling match where she is close to beating him, when Meg appears and whacks her with a chair, resulting in a serious injury and coma. While she is in the hospital, Peter rejects helping her by refusing to have his blood type checked.

Romantic Life[]

In "Handling Karen", Karen comes by for another visit and introduces the family to her girlfriend, Heather Sung, who was a character foil to her. While Karen acted brutish and masculine, Heather was very dainty and feminine. Meg invited Karen to be a guest speaker at James Woods Regional High School, telling the girls at the school that they can be wrestlers just like her. She then got into an actual wrestling match with a female student there, who actually beat her and put her to shame. Karen was so mad about losing to a teenager, that she threw a rage-o-fit at the house, which upset Heather and scared her away, as she didn't like having to deal with Karen's brutish behavior anymore. However, during her time away, Heather was nearly raped by Quagmire and Karen came to the rescue and beat him up to save her. Heather fell in love with Karen again and decided that she too should be a bit more violent and so when they got back to The Griffin House, Karen taught Heather a few lessons in self-defense.

In "A Call Too Far", Karen and Heather get married. The Griffins go down to Karen and Heather's lakehouse in Warwick to see the wedding. Karen and Heather's hobbies included tons of water sports like water skiing and parasailing. Karen makes Peter her best man as a joke and Lois gets pissed that she didn't make her a bridesmaid, feeling as though she's owed that. Heather also had some last-minute reservations about the wedding before it happened but Lois helped convince her to come back for the wedding. Karen and Heather had a beautiful little wedding and partied the night away.

In "Little Orphan Stewie", Karen and Heather consider adopting a baby but they don't know if they can handle one, so they take care of Stewie to see if they're any good at it. They end up being horrible at it but the lesson they learn is not that they shouldn't have a kid it's just that they shouldn't adopt and they decide to get a sperm donation. This sperm donation kid isn't seen until later in the show.

In "A House Full of Peters", Peter meets his many sperm donation kids for the first time. He takes notice of how one of the kids, Hubert seems to be extremely jacked up. It soon comes about that the woman who received his anonymous sperm donation was his sister, Karen, not knowing the donation came from her brother.
