Synopsis[]
After the bombshell of her truth is revealed, Meg tracks down her real father Stan Thompson in Vermont and sets off on a cross-country road trip to find him.
Plot[]
Continuing from where "The Truth About Meg" left off, Meg's hard at work trying to find her real father Stan Thompson with her getting little dead ends. However, she thinks that Stan might be a shorter name and decides to work the other way, after trying to search with the last name "Thompson" first, she gets a man named "Stanley Mitch Thompson", who sounds a lot closer to Stan. With a little more research, she finally locates her father in an apartment complex called Mapleview Apartments located in Poultney, Vermont. With this info, she packs a small travel bag and gets a solid from Brian to use his Prius for the trip, and sneaks away while the family is busy.
After driving cross-country for multiple hours, Meg arrives to the complex and finds her father's apartment. She introduces herself to Stan, but Stan gets alarmed and rushes to take a paternity DNA test on her. Sure enough, he finds out that Meg is in fact, blood-related to him. Stan reacts with anger and hostility, as it's like his worst experience has come back to haunt him and wonders how worse things will get. As if on cue, the landlord comes knocking and tells Stan he's evicting him as he's failed to make the rent multiple times, and has allowed him to live without paying too long no matter what excuse he has. After getting kicked out and now being homeless, Meg tries to break the ice with Stan, but Stan immediately shuts her down and told her the facts that he's doesn't want to be her father, looking at her as a burden the same way Peter and Lois, and she's going to drive him to a new location to crash at and never be associated with her again, much to Meg's disappointment.
They end up needing to stop at a rundown motel when it gets too late to drive and stay there for the night. While there, Stan leaves to stand on the balcony, to which Meg follows upon hearing and tries to open up to him. Stan finally vents how much his life sucked, with him being a social outcast disowned the mere minute he turned 18, the accident with Lois at the bar, and how that mere mistake made his wife think he was "cheating" on her and cause her to divorce him. making him lose out on life. Though Meg shrugs it off and explains her side of her life to cheer him up, telling him she understands the way he feels as a nobody, which makes him gain some understanding of her. Leading to him wanting to open up and know more about her and Meg begins to see a different side of him, and a bond begins to form between them.
While the two hit it off and even go off course of Stan's original plan of going to his location to crash a party, Peter and Lois begin to get suspicious of Meg's disappearance, as she's not at any of her usual hang out spots like the Quahog Bowling Alley, nor with one of her friends. The worse is found when a pocket dial happens while Meg and Stan are talking, revealing the truth. Upon returning home with Stan to show him her house, Peter immediately catches them and gets in a heated argument with him getting Lois pregnant with Meg and ruining his life, despite Stan claiming over and over it was an accident. The situation escalates and ends with Stan being thrown out of the house and Meg being banned from seeing him.
However, Stan is not one to be underestimated. He returns with a vengeance, determined to prove his worth and win over his daughter. While Peter's at the bar and Lois' out shopping, Stan hires people to go up to them and get them to sign contracts that was to get them to "be a tester of new beer" and "get discounts of shopping", which Stan reveals to the family late in the night to be divorce papers and papers to sign Lois over to Stan. The episode ends on a cliffhanger with Peter moving out of the house, leaving the rest of the family in disarray.
