How Farg is Heaven? is the sixteenth episode of the seventh season of Family Guy. It is the one hundred and fifty-eighth episode, overall.
Synopsis[]
Peter finds out that his favorite teacher Mr. Fargus is dying in the hospital, and gets into a funk. Meanwhile, Chris has to surrender his art style for anime to impress a girl, losing credibility in the process.
Plot[]
Randall Fargus teaches a group of students at his Wacky World of Mayhem some crazy science experiments and has Peter come over as his guest volunteer to goof off and have fun with him. They're both a riot and the kids start laughing their heads off and enjoying their time, learning so much about science. After class, Mr. Fargus thanks Peter for once again helping him out and also says that next week, he's gonna do a show where he'll be microwaving random crap live and seeing what happens. Peter unfortunately says he's gonna have to cancel, since he has plans to go drinking with the guys that night. Fargus is pretty disappointed and asks if he'll be able to make it to the next event or the next or the next or the next but Peter says he's busy all those days. Fargus says that it's a shame since the last time he'll be seeing Peter for a while is right now and they never seemed to hang out that much as of late. Just then, Peter immediately leaves.
Meanwhile, Chris meets a new girl at James Woods Regional High School named Keiko, after hearing that she's into art just like him, and wants to impress her with his artistic talent. Chris draws her a Thundercats drawing, thinking it'll impress her but she doesn't seem to like it. Keiko says that she's not a fan of western animation and is more so a fan of anime and manga. Chris learns up on anime and manga to see what all the hubbub is about but just can't seem to get into it. Nevertheless, he tries going for it anyway just to impress Keiko.
Peter and the Beer Bar Buddies all sit around drinking beer at the bar and Peter has Horace turn up the TV, when he sees Mr. Fargus on the news. Tom Tucker and Diane Simmons do a news report on Mr. Fargus, regarding the microwave show that just happened. Some live footage shows Fargus showing off his newest invention, he calls "Microwave-ception", where he microwaves a bag of popcorn inside of a small microwave and has that microwave inside of another microwave and that microwave is inside of another microwave, etc. until the thing is inside of five different microwaves. Mr. Fargus explains how this is going to help the microwaving process of popcorn go by all the more quicker. Mr. Fargus turns on the microwave-ception and unsurprisingly, this causes a nuclear explosion, which launches him across the room and slams him into a wall. Tom and Diane report that Mr. Fargus us now gunna be in the hospital for a few days but in his defense, that popcorn did come out looking pretty good. The beer bar buddies laugh at Mr. Fargus' classic mishap and then go back to grooving and boozing.
Chris shows off his anime art to Keiko but she laughs her ass off at it because it looks terrible. Chris feels bad about himself and tells Carl all about it. Carl admits that anime is not his forte, so he hooks up Chris with his anime-loving brother, Carson, who teaches him the ways of the manga in an anime-style manner. The animation style changes to anime and we get a bunch of really cool scenes of Chris and Carson messing around with anime fun, before Carson finally teaches Chris how to draw manga properly. Once Chris finally finishes, Carson gives him his black belt and sends him on his way.
Peter comes to Fargus' attraction for his usual Friday meeting one week, where he expects Fargus to be showing off his latest and greatest new invention, only to find out that Fargus was not there and the attraction was closed. With a sign on the door saying that he started feeling ill a few days ago, so he went home early and the place will be closed indefinitely. Peter cries out in terror, assuming "indefinitely" means the same thing as "infinitely" before a lowly old janitor comes up and explains to him the difference. Peter finally gets it and from the looks of it, it seems Fargus' attraction has been out of commission for at least a few months. Worried, Peter calls his house to check in on him, only for his wife and son, Eliza and Anthony Fargus to pick up. Eliza tells him that Randall is still in the hospital after that little Microwave-ception incident and this concerns Peter as usually Mr. Fargus is really only hospitalized for a while and then he's up and running again in no time.
Chris shows off his anime savviness to Keiko but she once again laughs her ass off at him and leaves, leaving Chris heartbroken and betrayed. Even worse, he loses credibility with his friends because they all liked his old art style better and hate the anime-style new stuff, so he basically went through all of this for nothing. This makes Chris feel depressed.
After work the next day, Peter decides to visit Fargus in the hospital just to see if everything's okay, which he assumes everything basically is. Mr. Fargus tells Peter that unfortunately, he has cancer, thanks to that last experiment and according to the doctors, it's pretty bad. Peter asks if Fargus is going to survive, which Fargus sadly says he doesn't know, as the doctors told him he had a slim twenty percent chance of living. Meaning he’s basically on his deathbed. The news of his friend's life hits Peter especially hard and as he drives home, he feels angry and sad, thinking about Fargus’ condition.
Peter and Chris both feel pretty sad about their own personal problems and sit there, wallowing about. Chris decides to quit his artistic work, and Peter becomes so stricken that he has no reaction to Lois trying to give him a beer, Meg wanting him to lodge a pie in her face, or the Giant Chicken trying to do their usual fights. Peter has gone entirely numb.
Things go from bad to worse, when becomes worse when Peter finds out that Fargus is on his last hours a few days later, and decides to go to there with his wife for some closure and to be by his side when he needs him most. Peter feels horrible about losing Fargus, but he tells Peter he gave him the best years of his life and only wished we could have a little more time together. Peter, however, tells them they can and shares a virtual reality experience with him in which it reverses back to the first time they met at Buddy Cianci Jr. High, the time they had in Peter's middle school years, when Fargus had to go on medication, the two meeting again, and all the wild adventures they went on, with it ending with the two as old men relaxing on the grassy field together; as the vision comes to a close, Fargus quietly passes away.
With both of them being in sad depressive states, Meg tells Chris that he must feel that he let everyone down and made a fool of himself, but notes people will forget about it and move on. As Meg tells him this, Chris goes outside and notices no one laughing at him or mocking him- they moved on. Giving Chris the feeling to draw again. And Brian cheers Peter by discussing he could cherish those small moments the two had, relating it to his experience with Pearl. And to make it a little better, Eliza, knowing how much Fargus meant to Peter, gives him the photo of the two of them that Fargus originally had. And Peter decides to put it on his dresser as a sweet reminder of his old friend.

- Randall: Thanks again for helping out again, Peter. It’s been so hard to work here with my increased age, and having you here is always a joy! Say, you wanna come over here next week? I’m gonna be doing a live show with a new invention!
- Peter Griffin: Sorry, Fargs. I have to cancel. One of my friends that moved is visiting and we have plans since to go drinking that night.
- Randall: Oh... Well, will you be able to make it to the next event? Or the next? Or the next? Or, ever?
- Peter: Fargs, I’m packed for all those days.
- Randall: What a shame. The last time I’ll be seeing you for a while is right now. And it seems like we never seem to hang out the same way we did.
- Peter: When we rekindled our relationship a few years ago, it was simpler times back then. I was working at a toy factory and you were working at Chris’ middle school when we met again.
- Randall: I know. Plus that whole Petoria disaster kinda threw us off. Shame because I always want to spend as much time with the friend I love before I die. Because Peter, we both know I’m an extremely old man and don’t have much time. So, can you someday think about seeing me sometime soon? (turns around to see Peter has left already) Uup, you left.
- Randall: You see, microwaved popcorn generally takes about 5 minutes to pop but what if I were to put a simple bag of popcorn inside of five different microwaves at once!? Then I could pop through all that popcorn in just one minute! I mean, a delicious bag of popcorn being made in just a fifth of the time!? You can't go wrong!
- Anthony: Fargus residence.
- Peter: [On the phone] Mr. Fargus?
- Anthony: Mr. Griffin? I thought you knew me.
- Peter: Oh, i-it's you Anthony. Uh, can you put your father on the phone?
- Anthony: Hold on [calls out] Mom, Mr. Griffin's on the phone!
- Eliza: Coming. [on the phone] Peter?
- Peter: Eliza? W-Where's Randall? His place looks like a ghost building and haven't heard a word from him since I met up with him last.
- Eliza: Oh, Peter. I think we might not have told you. He's still in the hospital after his little Microwave-ception incident.
- Peter: Really? But it's been at few months. Usually when Fargs gets in the hospital, he's really only hospitalized for a while and then he's up and running again in no time.
- [When he reaches the room he was told Randall was in, Peter knocks on the door and slightly opens it to see Fargus on his backside in the darkly lit room. Knowing it’s him, he widens the door and turns on the light]
- Peter: Hi, Fargs!
- [Peter’s voice causes Randall to awaken from his sleep and turn to see his friend]
- Randall: Hello, Peter.
- Peter: I heard you got in the hospital, so I thought I pay you a visit. You must have got something very awful if you've been here for so long.
- Randall: Well, it’s not from a normal hospital case. I have colon cancer.
- Peter: Cancer? That’s horrible! I don’t understand, how did you know?
- Randall: It turns out I caught it thanks to that nuclear reaction from my last experiment. I didn’t notice until I started feeling ill for a week. So I went here and discovered my condition. And from what the doctors say, mine is pretty bad. Close to one of worst cases.
- Peter: Did they do anything to help? Cause I remember when my father caught cancer, he treated it with chemotherapy.
- Randall: Well, they did set me up to have some, but it just seems to not help. I feel more and more ill each day.
- Peter: Randall, are-are you gonna survive?
- Randall: (sighes) Peter, I wish I knew, but I don’t know. The doctors told me I have a slim twenty percent chance of living. But seeing with my weakened age and the fact the medication does not help, I don’t think I will make it.
- Peter: So I guess the only thing we can do is hope, huh?
- Randall: Sadly so.
- [As Peter and Randall sadly look at each other, Dr. Hartman comes from behind them]
- Dr. Hartman: Excuse Mr. Griffin, while I don’t mean to interrupt your emotional moment with Mr. Fargus, but the visiting hours are up. You have to leave.
- Randall: Well, thanks for coming to visit me. Means a lot to me that you'd come see me.
- Peter: Hey, that’s what friends are for.
- [Peter and Randall come in for a hug and Peter waves Randall goodbye as he leaves]
- [Around evening at the Griffin house, the family is eating dinner-except for Peter and Chris, who’s been eyeing their food for the whole time. Lois looks up to notice neither have touched their food]
- Lois: Peter, Chris, you two haven’t ate anything since you got home. Is something bothering you two?
- [In the morning, Lois comes down from their room, looking for Peter]
- Lois: Peter? Where are you?
- Brian: (off-screen) Over here.
- [Camera pans to show Peter still on the windowsill]
- Lois: Peter, you're still here?
- Brian: He hasn't moved since last night.
- Lois: Brian, I'm worried about Peter.
- [As Peter walks through the streets, looking down, the Giant Chicken comes from behind Peter to assault him. As the Giant Chicken gets into his fighting position to get ready to fight, Peter instead just ignores him. Thinking he's being rude, the Giant Chicken dashes back and forth on Peter in multiple battle poses to get him to fight him, until a fed-up Peter clockss him clean out]
- Peter: I'm not in the mood!!
- Peter: Randall!
- Eliza: Randy!
- Anthony: Dad.
- Randall: (weakly) Peter, Eliza, son... You’ve came for me… but I don't have much time.
- Peter: Oh, I never should have got you off your pills. This is all my fault!
- Randall: (weakly) Don't be so hard on yourself, Peter. Aside from the microwave part, you’ve given me the best years of my life. I only wish we could have a little more time together.
- Peter: We can.
- Peter: So long, old friend.
- Meg: Well, I can understand how you feel. You worked hard, studying that anime style just to impress that girl. And I suppose you feel you let everyone down, and you made a fool out of yourself.
- [Meg walks back to the door and opens it, about to step out...]
- Meg: But do you wanna know something, Chris?
- Chris: What's that?
- Meg: People will forget about it.
- [Meg leaves the room and closes the door]
