Happy New Year Guy is the seventeenth episode of the twentieth season of Family Guy. It is the four hundred and ninety fifth episode overall.

Synopsis[]

The people of Spooner Street say goodbye to the crapfest that was 2021 and take extra precautions to make sure that 2022 doesn't turn out the same way.

Plot[]

The episode begins with a cold opening, taking place on December 31st, 2020, where everybody is celebrating the new year at The Griffin House, albeit wearing masks and face shields and social distancing and stuff. Lois announces how although this year was horrible, we can all take solace in knowing that 2021 will be a far superior year and how everybody's gonna love it so much better. Then they count down to the new year and 2021 finally starts. A dark screen appears with some dark foreboding music and white text that reads "One Year Later"; After that, The Griffin Family sits in their house and Lois cusses.

When the actual episode starts, it's set on December 26th of 2021 and everybody is reviewing just how much worse this year was than the one before. Peter assumes that the reason this year was worse than 2020 was because everybody jinxed it by saying it'd be better.

Lois: Are you kidding, Peter? This was one worst year in modern history! It was somehow even worse than last year and that was fucking disaster.
Peter: Yeah, but something good happened: I didn't get hit in the crotch with a bag of nickels.
[Due to him tempting fate, a bag of nickels on a rope comes soaring into his crouch]
Peter: Damnit! I jinxed it!!
